Gansey's Wiki Entry

↠ Powers / Abilities:

Gansey has a gift for finding things that is briefly discussed in the books.  This is mostly described in the context of finding historical artifacts.  He states that he has a 'gift' for finding things and a responsibility to use it.  The full extent of this is never fully discussed.

Gansey has the 'voice of a king'.  It is a power that like his ability to find things, isn't fully explained.  In one situation when he was able to awaken a cavern full of skeletons when he had his friends Adam, Ronan, and Blue to help amplify and focus his power.  He's able to command or request the magical forest, Cabeswater, to alter aspects of itself to fit his whims.  Once he thought of the fish in a stream as being one color, then thought of another color, and the fish changed to the color he preferred.  He also turned falling leaves into illusions of fish that 'swam' around his friends to entertain them.  To use the commands to perform larger magics, he needs a power source that he can tap into, which at his canon point, he still struggles with.  Usually he needs his friends to help him do these types of spells.

Gansey is described as being incredibly charming, which usually is assumed to be because he is part of a family that has been rooted in politics for centuries. This may also be an unknown side ffect of the 'voice of a king'.  It may improve his persuasiveness, but if it does, Gansey doesn't realize that he has this ability.

He also has the ability to see ghosts and other paranormal phenomenon.

Despite his age, Gansey is a very thorough scholar.  He has traveled the world and gained the respect of many professionals in the field of archaeology and history.  He is meticulous when a project catches his attention and will expend large amounts of energy to find answers to scholarly questions related to history and ley line magic.

He is an excellent student and according to the books, he does not expend much effort into his studies, which implies that he's quick to grasp information and that he is intelligent.  The school he attends will fail students who get lower than a B in any of his classes and Gansey is never shown to struggle with any subject other than Latin.  This may be because of boredom since he's stated that he never focused on it because two of his best friends know the language so well.

During his bouts of insomnia, Gansey builds a model of the town he lives in.  The replica is made from cardboard and are sturdy and very detailed.  This suggests some artistic talent that he hasn't fully explored because of his obsession with his search.

↠ Languages:

English - this is Gansey's primary language.

Latin - He has a passable understanding of this language. He's had three years of it in high school. He's better at reading it than speaking it. It takes him time to translate complicated conversation.

French - This is one of his stronger secondary languages. He speaks this one very well, occasionally defaulting to it in conversations when he is surprised by something or to express his reactions to things that are outside his usual expectations of normal.

↠ What is Your Character's Sin?:

Gansey's sin is lust.  When he was a boy, he stepped on a hornet's nest and should have died because of an extreme allergic reaction.  During that moment, heard a voice that said it was because of the Welsh king Glendower and the ley lines that he survived.  Since that moment, he's been obsessed with finding the lost king and to understand the magic related to ley lines.  It is a search that has driven all of his decisions and kept him traveling around the world in search of any hint of information that will help him with his search.

When he was 13 years old, he left home to begin his search without considering the risks of being so young and alone in the world.  He completely ignored the worry his family might have for him, disappearing for months at a time in Europe with no adult supervision.  He would suddenly move from one site to another without thinking of what his friends in that place might think of his disappearances.  Those details didn't matter to him.  The obsession and passion for finding Glendower is the only thing that matters.  He does foolish, things, risking his life regularly to find his lost king.

This changes once he's in Henrietta.  He is still just as obsessed.  He will do almost anything to find Glendower as long as he is the only one put in danger.

Cost means nothing to Gansey if something will assist him in his quest.  He spends large amounts of money in his search, buying books, maps, renting equipment, and purchasing anything else that might give him a scrape of pertinent information.

Gansey does not horde the knowledge that he's gathered over the years.  He joyfully shares it with anyone who will listen, only limiting his discussion of Glendower and ley lines to omit the details that might make him seem crazy.  He never thinks of withholding information from others.  He loves teaching people what he's learned, but not because of pride or a need to gloat over his finds.  Knowledge should be shared with like minded individuals.

Although he is a curious person and loves learning about the world around him, he does not gather up information on subjects not related to his obsessions.  There are many subjects that he studies for school that he just learns enough to pass, not because of a driving need to have more information.
