Gansey knew that he shouldn't be doing this even if Declan said he was always welcome to stay at the townhouse. That it was as much his home as Declan and Matthew's, but it still felt odd to be there without Declan. Like home, but not quite, but that was probably because of the lack of the person he loved, not because he was an intruder.
He'd tried to stay away, staying at Monmouth and even with his parents while Declan and Matthew were away, but after day three, he'd given up the effort. Adam had always said that Gansey was greedy, and it was true.
Gansey was greedy for even the hint of Declan's presence, which is why he'd decided to spend the night in the lonely house. Maybe being there would make the loneliness lessen or at least ease the insomnia.
Of course it didn't. Nothing except Declan did that. Which might be why he ended up sprawled on Declan's bed - their bed - after a frustrating shower that left him thinking of the times they'd shared that tiny space and what happened afterward. He wanted Declan even when that was impossible. Staring up at the ceiling, he slowly realized that being alone might not be so bad. He had complete privacy. He could try the things that he never dared at Monmouth since Ronan or Adam could burst through the door at any moment.
Moving to the area of the closet that Declan had given him, he found the box that he kept some of his more personal things, he found the toy he'd bought on a whim weeks ago. Something that he eventually planned to show Declan. He was certain that his boyfriend wouldn't mind if he tried it out now while he was alone and thinking of him. At least afterward Gansey should be so worn out that he'd probably sleep a few hours.
