        Disposition:
      • Gansey is someone who hides his emotions, letting the world believe that he's a charming, happy person when he’s hiding layers of trauma and self-doubt. His mother taught him that he should always smile despite what he might be feeling. Negative emotions are carefully hidden away, covered by a smile that will make others feel better. Even his friends rarely get to see these emotions even when Gansey is mentally at his breaking point.

      • Despite the confident image that he presents to the world, Gansey has low self-worth. He questions whether he deserves the money and privilege he has and if he deserved the second chance he was given when his life was saved when he was a boy. He regularly thinks that his friends would be fine without him, that he’s unneeded by them. He wonders if they care about him and assumes that they will leave him. He doesn’t see himself as important to them, not realizing that each person in the group loves him and they all wish to support and protect him.

      • On many occasions, Gansey thinks that he wants to be like his violently orange 1973 Camaro. The car is beautiful on the outside, but it is quirky. It is extremely bright, unapologetically loud, a throwback to an era that no longer exists. Which, in many ways, is how Gansey is. He wears bright shirts because they help lift his moods and are his attempt at working through his darker moments. He is intelligent and draws the eye. Even though he rarely raises his voice, people listen when he speaks, even when he isn’t using his magical abilities. He’s serious and thoughtful, which leads him to be described as an ‘old man’ in a teenage body. At times, it seems that he would live in the past easier than he lives in the era he was born to.

      • Gansey is the peacekeeper and protector of the group. He’s the one who soothes his friend, Ronan’s, bad temper and apologizes when Ronan gets in trouble. He’s also the one that smooths over any consequences for Ronan’s bad life choices, trying to protect him as much as possible. When Adam’s temper gets the better of him, Gansey is the one who usually steps back, letting Adam work through his mood and taking the brunt of his anger.

      • He also is the protector in the group. During their search, they learn that a sacrifice is needed to awaken the ley line, but Gansey refuses to continue the search until they find a safe way to do this. There is a very real danger that a murderer could perform the sacrifice and gain incredible power, but Gansey still refuses to allow his friends to take the risks that they all know are necessary. He won’t endanger his friends no matter how much he wants to find Glendower. In the end of the series, despite his fears and not wanting to die, Gansey sacrifices himself for his friends.

      • At times, Gansey can be reckless and selfish. Despite knowing that he is deathly allergic to stinging insects, he rarely carries his epi pen or worries about the possibility of being stung. If he needs to do something to accomplish part of his quest, he will do it. He left home around the age of 13 to try to find Glendower without adult supervision. He didn’t bother contacting them and rarely updated them on his whereabouts even when he’s back in the United States. During his trips abroad, he regularly left his friends without saying goodbye. He describes himself as a coward and selfish in that respect. He can’t deal with goodbyes so he left without any hint of what he was leaving so that he didn’t have to deal with those emotions.

      • Despite growing up in a political family, Gansey is an idealist. He thinks the best of others and the world, attempting not to judge others. One of the adults that he considered a friend, Mr. Gray, is a hit man. He never considers that this makes Mr. Gray a bad person. Gansey judges him by his actions during the time that he’s known him and believes that Mr. Gray can be a good person. When he learns about his friend Noah’s murder, Gansey can’t comprehend killing a friend for any reason. Over and over, he’s exposed to the darker aspects of humanity, and later, the darker side of magic, and he still believes in the goodness of people and is awed by the magic that he keeps discovering.

      Suitability:

At first, Gansey will find the new setting unsettling, but as soon as he understands the situation, he’ll start accepting it and thriving. When he was 13, Gansey began traveling around the world without adult supervision. This implies that he can adapt quickly to new locations and new cultural norms easily. He’ll miss his friends, but he’ll see Nova as a new adventure. His curiosity will drive him to find out more about Nova and to learn everything he can about what he’ll see as magic.

His love for magic will make him excited and awed by the idea of having a gem bond. He’ll be eager to find out what the bond means and what powers he might have. He’ll want to learn more about the different gems and what powers other people with different gems might have. If he’s able to, he’ll compile research to organize the details of his findings so that he can share it with others. His own magic will surprise him since he thinks of himself as the non magical one of his group, but he’ll quickly start trying to learn what the scope of his abilities are and how to use them.

Synchrony will be something Gansey might struggle with. The aspects of synchrony that involve companionship will not be a problem for him. He is an easygoing person who enjoys the company of like minded people. Gansey craves validation and signs that he is valued by his friends so casual affection will be something new and special for him. Once he becomes friends with someone, the friendship tends to deepen into a very strong relationship. More intimate acts will be more complicated for him. Anything more than that will take a deeper bond. He’s someone attracted to the whole person, with his heart becoming involved before he really acts on that attraction. He will also dealing with the idea of true love and what it means beyond the romantic notions that society promotes. He is Blue’s true love, but their first kiss killed him. He also has complicated feelings for Ronan and Adam.

His feelings for his friends will make him hesitant to be more intimate with new people, but it also will make him more open minded of possibilities. He already understands that he can love more than one person at a time so he would eventually accept the need for synchrony and be able to Sync with someone.

Body transformation will freak him out at first. It’s not something that he’s encountered before despite all his research on magic and the paranormal. After he gets over the initial shock and accepts what happened, he’ll be accepting of it and think of it as another detail to learn about.

      Condition upon arrival:

Good health except he has an extreme allergy to hornets/wasps/stinging insects. He also has insomnia and doesn’t sleep for days at a time.

      Abilities:

      Finding Lost Things

Gansey has a gift for finding things that is briefly discussed in the books. This is mostly described in the context of finding historical artifacts. He states that he has a 'gift' for finding things and a responsibility to use it. The full extent of this is never fully discussed.

      The Voice of a King

Gansey has the 'voice of a king'. It is a power that like his ability to find things, isn't fully explained. In one situation when he was able to awaken a cavern full of skeletons when he had his friends Adam, Ronan, and Blue to help amplify and focus his power. He's able to command or request the magical forest, Cabeswater, to alter aspects of itself to fit his whims. Once he thought of the fish in a stream as being one color, then thought of another color, and the fish changed to the color he preferred. He also turned falling leaves into illusions of fish that 'swam' around his friends to entertain them. To use the commands to perform larger magics, he needs a power source that he can tap into, which at his canon point, he still struggles with. Usually he needs his friends to help him do these types of spells.

Gansey is described as being incredibly charming, which usually is assumed to be because he is part of a family that has been rooted in politics for centuries. This may also be an unknown side effect of the 'voice of a king'. It may improve his persuasiveness, but if it does, Gansey doesn't realize that he has this ability.

      Other Powers and Abilities

He also has the ability to see ghosts and other paranormal phenomena.

Gansey may have other magical abilities that are not discussed. It’s hinted that he might be a reincarnated mythical king. He also was resurrected through the magic of his three friends and a bond to an enchanted forest. Unfortunately, the book series does not go into detail of what happens to Gansey after his resurrection and what powers it might have given him. If Gansey is accepted, I would like to explore the possibilities of the gem bond awakening some of these possibilities and Gansey learning to accept the magical influences that brought him back.

Gansey is a very thorough scholar. He is meticulous when a project catches his attention and will expend large amounts of energy to find answers to scholarly questions related to history and ley line magic.

He is an excellent student and according to the books, he does ‘t expend much effort into his studies, which implies that he's quick to grasp information and that he is intelligent.

During his bouts of insomnia, Gansey builds a model of the town he lives in. The replica is made from cardboard, and they are sturdy and very detailed. This suggests some artistic talent that he hasn’t fully explored because of his obsession with his search.
