When he's tired, he wears wire frame glasses. 🌙 FASHION: Gansey prefers to wear bright colors like orange, citrus yellow, and teal. He wears slacks/cargo pants and boat shoes when he's back home. He'll find something similar to wear at least color wise if he's able to. 🌙 DEMEANOR: He's friendly and charming, focusing on being reassuring and pleasant to those around him when he's in a public setting. He rarely shows negative emotions or emotions that aren't socially acceptable. He is more relaxed around people he's close to, but he hides insecurities and depression behind the charming mask. 🌙 SOUND: Gansey has a southern accent that's been rounded out by years of travel around the world. When he needs to play the politician's son, his accent becomes very smooth and implies wealth and power. For years, Henrietta had been home. But after everything that had happened in October, with the strange new sense of otherness awakening in Gansey, he thought that getting away for a year might be better for him than trying to scramble through college applications and listening to his parents' disapproval if he ended up in a school that was 'beneath' a Gansey because of his lack of foresight in terms of his scholastic future. The idea had tempted his wanderlust, teased with the possibilities of exploring his relationships with Blue and Henry. It'd seemed like an ideal solution to his confusion regarding his future.
At least at first it had seemed to be the ideal solution.
He enjoyed this amended version of his nomadic life, welcoming his girlfriend and boyfriend into the life he'd lived in the past, but somehow things hadn't quite settled in the ways he'd hoped for. They were free of expectations, of responsibilities. There were no worries about ley lines or magic. No psychics predicting the success or failure of their relationships. It should have been perfect.

No matter what the three of them tried, it seemed that Gansey couldn't quite find his place in their developing trio. Eventually, he realized that the best thing for all of them would be for him to gracefully bow out of the relationship before Henry and Blue headed to South America.
Flying home to D.C., he collected the Pig, relieved that it was still in its shadowed corner of the garage, draped in tarps and ignored, but thankfully untouched.
He didn't remember the drive from D.C. to Henrietta. The trip from there to the Barns was a strange blur of past and present folding onto each other until Gansey wasn't sure if this was his first trip to Ronan's home or his hundredth. As he stepped out of the Camaro and walked toward the porch, he heard an triumphant voice inside his head proclaim, Make way for the Raven King.
He didn't remember the drive from D.C. to Henrietta. The trip from there to the Barns was a strange blur of past and present folding onto each other until Gansey wasn't sure if this was his first trip to Ronan's home or his hundredth. As he stepped out of the Camaro and walked toward the porch, he heard an triumphant voice inside his head proclaim, Make way for the Raven King.
He wasn't quite certain what sort of king he might be with time wrapping around him strangely and his memories fragmented. Knocking on the door, he hoped that he was in the present and not the past or future.

Deerington Canon Update

Original Canon Point: The moment before he wakes up post-resurrection in The Raven King.

Gansey won’t have any physical changes from this update.
Many of Gansey’s personality traits will remain the same. He will be loyal, charming, and have his weaknesses related to his friends, but he will not be as touched by the darkness that marks the end of his quest and his search for meaning for his life. At the end of the Raven King, Gansey has went through one emotional trauma after another. Overall, he is at his lowest point. His friends are in a terrible situation. The world is in a terrible situation. His hopes have been destroyed. He spent weeks believing his friends didn’t value him. He saw horrible events that will leave emotional scars. Some of these events include:
Aurora’s (Ronan’s Mother) Death - Although the books don’t show much of what happened before The Raven Boys it is implied that Gansey visited Ronan’s family regularly and cared for Ronan’s parents. Aurora’s death would impact him personally as the loss of someone close to him. It would also effect him because of Ronan’s reactions to losing his mother.
Finding Glendower - He’s seen his lifelong quest for Glendower completed, but it ended in disappointment and without the magic needed to save the world from the demon destroying Cabeswater. The vision that kept him moving forward turned out to be lie and the quest that had given him purpose is over. He has nothing left to focus on or to keep him going intellectually.
Adam’s Possession - Because a demon was destroying Cabeswater, one Gansey’s best friends, Adam, became possessed by the demon. During his possession, Adam tried to kill his friends, focusing mainly on Ronan. Before Gansey sacrifices himself, Adam seems to be free of the demon, but he knows that if the sacrifice doesn’t work, Adam will be in danger again.
Ronan Dying - The demon destroying Cabeswater also attacked Ronan. Because Ronan is a dreamer, the demon was able to ‘unmake’ him and slowly kill him. Before Gansey sacrificed himself, one of the last things he saw was Ronan being killed by the demon.
Gansey’s Death - Gansey sacrificed himself to save his friends and possibly the world. He kissed Blue, who was cursed to kill her True Love and offered up his death to stop the demon. This offering saved them. The act was brave, but forced Gansey to confront his fate and the fact that despite not knowing what to do with his life, he wanted to live.
Gansey being canon updated to an earlier point in the books will make him more curious about the new world he’s found himself in and it will ease the darkness that dominates his thoughts at his current canon point.
Before finding out about the demon, Gansey was a curious, optimistic person. Magic and dreams were potentially dangerous, but they were also beautiful wonders that he could see potential in even when they contained darkness. He was someone who was cautious, but would still press forward. He wasn’t as touched by the consequences of actions (such as Aurora’s death and Adam’s possession) so he was more impulsive and willing to explore new things He assumes the best of situations most of the time, taking measures to protect his friends, but not planning for true worst case scenarios..
Although he knows he is fated to die, the weight of that prophecy hasn’t fully taken hold at that point. Gansey still believes he has time to find Glendower and to give his life meaning. He still has a purpose that moves him forward and gives him a vibrancy that he lacks near his current canon point.
In many ways Gansey is mentally younger at that point even though it’s less than a month from his current canon point. He is still innocent, seeing beauty in the world around him and ignoring his darker, self-abusing thoughts. He hasn’t seen the true dangers of his quest or magic. He loves Blue but it’s still a fragile emotion that allows him to ignore the possibilities of being cursed by a kiss. He’s mended his friendship with Adam. Adam’s bond with Cabeswater is frightening, but not acknowledged as something that could lead to dangers such as demon possession. He knows Ronan is healing and, with time, he’ll become a stronger version of the boy that he’d met years ago.
Gansey would have some mental breathing room that would help him deal with the events in Deerington without collapsing into the depression and darkness that marked his time before making his sacrifice. He would be more willing to explore and put his curiosity into discovering the details of his new situation and why they are all in Deerington. He’d also be more willing to jump into events, heedless of the possible dangers that might be involved if it might mean he learns something that would help in his new quest to discover information about why they were brought to Deerington or help others survive the strangeness of their new world.

Wake.
Gansey woke with a rush of gasping breath, hand frantically clawing at his chest as the memory of pain exploded beneath his ribs. He stared up, not at sky, but a plain, non descript ceiling. One that looked vaguely, but not quite familiar. Not Monmouth. Not enough shadows, not enough hollow space. Not the Barns.
At least he didn't think so. Although the Barns was a closer match than anywhere else Gansey had attempted to sleep in the past few years.
Struggling upright, he took in his surroundings, fear and wariness lingering along his spine as he noticed again everything was similar to the Barns, but not quite right. A bland - how could it be more bland than the original? - copy of Declan's room.
Declan. Ronan. Ronan. The pain in his chest couldn't chase away his fear for his best friend. The image of blackness pouring from Ronan's eyes, his ears and mouth, seized his mind. Stumbling out of the room, he ignored the almost-Barns around him, nearly falling down the stairs in his haste to get away. To find Ronan and Adam and Blue...
He collided with something. More than one somethings, but he didn't notice the bruises he collected or the thumps of items crashing to the floor. The door slammed behind him as he panted his way into the yard, to the Pig. If it was here, then things could be set right.
Opening the door, he slid into the familiar seat, turning the key that was waiting in the ignition. The engine roared to life and he curled shaking hands around the steering wheel. He intended to put the Camaro in gear and head back to the spot where he'd... but his hands were shaking too much. His skin crawling, his chest aching. A moment. He'd take a moment to stop the potential anxiety attack that was lingering in the backseat, then go find the others.

He shouldn't be doing this. Ronan knew him too well and it was too easy for his best friend to figure out his secrets. It was luck or a miracle he'd kept things from Ronan for so long. Maybe if he hadn't had to leave, it would have eventually spilled out, potentially ugly and viscous, ruining the one friendship that made Gansey feel like a normal life could coexist with his life as Ghost.
But he was tired, the type of soul deep tired that wouldn't go away with sleep. Talking to Ronan might help ease that ache, remind him that there was more to the world than violence and darkness.
Sighing, he could already hear Bruce's lecture if he found out what Gansey was doing. Imagining Evie's reaction didn't help either, but he still sent Ronan a message, asking if he was awake.
He probably was. Ronan's sleep patterns were as crazy as Gansey's.
Sitting back in his chair, he absentmindedly rubbed his aching ribs. At least none of the bruises were obvious tonight. He should be able to hide his night life from Ronan for a few minutes during a vid chat session.
